WAX SERVICES AT APARNAZ

There different types of waxing that can be performed are: bikini, male genital (we do not do this type at our salon), Hollywood/Brazilian waxing (we only do for women), leg waxing, arm/underarm waxing, back waxing, foot waxing, chest waxing, entire body wax.

Most parts of the body can be waxed, but other parts, not listed above are not given special consideration. Areas individuals should never wax include eyelashes, eyelids, the palms of the hands, and the soles of the feet.

These areas are of particular concern due to sensitive skin that can be severely damaged if waxed. Areas of the body that should only be waxed by a licensed professional include the genitals and the nipples.

What is waxing?

Waxing is a method of semi-permanent hair removal which removes the hair from the root cause. New hairs will not grow back in the previously waxed area for two to eight weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet. There are many types of waxing suitable for removing unwanted hair. If waxing is done regularly for several years, permanent hair reduction may be achieved.

Waxing is accomplished by spreading a wax combination thinly over the skin. A cloth or paper strip is then pressed on the top and ripped off with a quick movement against the direction of hair growth. This removes the wax along with the hair.

Another method utilizes hard wax (as opposed to strip wax). In this case, the wax is applied somewhat thickly and with no cloth or paper strips. The wax then hardens when it cools, thus allowing the easy removal by a therapist without the aid of cloths. This waxing method in our professional opinion is much more painful and we in our salon do not do this type of waxing.

Benefits Of Waxing At Aparnaz

It lasts longer than shaving because it pulls the hair from the roots. No cuts or nicks that can leave you with scars, especially if you are like me that has skin susceptible to discoloration even for a minor cut.Shaving can cause rashes on sensitive skin. For many, waxing makes the hair grow slower and finer. Waxing produces smoother results because hair is pulled from the root. Shaving can result to stubbles. If you don’t shave often enough, your legs will feel rough and abrasive.Waxing will make your skin feel smoother longer without feeling itchy, because of slower hair regrowth. Contrary to popular belief, waxing is not always painful. if you do it right, it is almost pain-free. Waxing is fast and convenient. water. Skin is less susceptible to irritations associated with shaving.

Waxing is more hygienic, longer lasting, and more cost-effective than shaving. When men switch from shaving to waxing, they love avoiding the inevitable itchy scruff that grows in after a few days, and most of our male clients report that they can’t imagine going back to shaving after receiving their first Brazilian. However, even though you may know the benefits of waxing, you may still not be sure if it is right for you, and you may have a lot of questions about it. Read on for some of the most common questions we hear from our male clients.

Are You Feeling Awkward?

Don’t worry about feeling ‘naked’ around us. We’re women and we’ve got what you’ve got. Bikini waxes are not awkward—we do them all day long. We’ve seen it all, waxed it all. We concentrate on giving you the most painless wax possible. For our most conservative bikini waxes (Classic Bikini and French Bikini), we can provide you with a pair of disposable panties to wear. For our Brazilian Wax, we ask that our clients undress from the waist down. We will provide you with a privacy towel. Our estheticians are trained in the “art of draping” which means that they leave the treatment room while you get undressed. They also leave the treatment room before you get up from the table

How long does it take to get waxed?

Depending on the body part and the density of hair, your waxing appointment will take between 10 and 90 minutes. First appointments can take a bit longer as there may be some tweezing to achieve the cleanest results. Our motto No Strays Left Behind means that our waxing goal is to make sure that you receive the most thorough hair removal possible. Thorough results are our goal, not speed. A woman’s Brazilian wax may take up to 25 minutes to do correctly–especially if this is your first time or it’s been awhile since your last wax. If someone says they can do a Brazilian wax in under 10 minutes…personally, we’d run for the hills.

Can I get a bikini wax while I have my period?

You may be a little more sensitive during your period. For that reason, we recommend scheduling your waxing appointment during the first two weeks of your cycle. Your sensitivity level can be less during this time. However, if you come in for a waxing service during your menstrual cycle, we ask that you wear a tampon during the waxing service.

What is double-dipping?

Double-dipping is a NO-NO. It refers to dipping an application stick that has already been used back into the wax pot. No reputable waxing salon double-dips, a practice which can foster the spread of disease.

What is the difference between hard and soft waxes?

Soft waxing (also known as strip waxing) is done by spreading a thin layer of wax over the skin. A cloth strip is applied and pressed firmly, adhering the strip to the wax and the wax to the skin. The strip is then quickly removed against the direction of hair growth. This removes the wax along with the hair. Soft wax is traditionally used for waxing larger areas such as legs and arms and is also used to remove fine hairs.

Hard wax is applied somewhat thickly and no strips are used. The wax hardens when it cools, allowing for easy removal because the wax encapsulates the hair as it hardens. Hard wax attaches itself only to the hair and not the skin, minimizing discomfort and reducing the possibility of skin irritation and lifting. Hard wax can also “grab” shorter and more coarse hair and often eliminates the need to wax over the same area twice. This waxing method is popular for people who have sensitive skin and can be less painful.

Should I trim my hair before coming in

It is best to leave the hair as long as possible before waxing. The longer the hair, the easier it is to grab. If your hair needs to be trimmed, our estheticians will trim it before they wax you.

How long should I wait between waxing appointments?

This is one of the most important Female Waxing FAQs. Many waxing salons will try and set appointments with you every 2 to 3 weeks. However, we recommend a general time period between waxing of 3 to 5 weeks. This allows the hair to grow to a recommended length of ¼ inch and takes into account that each hair follicle is on its own growth cycle. Waiting 3 to 5 weeks ensures that the maximum number of hairs have reached the ¼ inch recommended length. Waxing more frequently may not give all of your hair sufficient time to grow out—perpetuating the cycle to wax more frequently. After your first or second waxing service, you may notice a small amount of regrowth after about a week. It can take 2 to 3 treatments to get on a hair growth cycle that gives the best results.

The night before your appointment, gently exfoliate the area to prevent ingrown hairs. Finally, if you are worried about the pain, taking an OTC pain reliever like ibuprofen may help. However, if you decide to have a couple beers before your appointment, it won’t have the same effect. Alcohol actually makes waxing more painful because the stimulants will make your skin more sensitive. The same goes for smoking or caffeine. Finally, wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment, as it is important that the area breathe.

Does it hurt?

One of our most feared Female Waxing FAQs! Yes, it can hurt depending upon a variety of factors. If someone tells you otherwise, they’re telling a little white lie. After all, the hair is being removed by the follicle. BUT…high-quality wax coupled with a professional technique helps minimize the pain. And if you experience any pain, it will quickly subside. We are not medical professionals, but we recommend taking a mild painkiller such as Ibuprofen 30 minutes prior to your appointment (as long as it does not contradict your physician’s instructions). Avoid caffeine and alcohol, as they contain stimulants that can increase sensitivity and redness after waxing. Pregnancy and your menstrual cycle can also increase sensitivity.

What are the side effects of waxing?

Some slight soreness, small bumps, and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, particularly with your first wax. We provide a soothing after-wax skincare oil to help reduce these symptoms which should subside within 24 to 48 hours. If you experience persistent redness or irritation, or if you have questions, please contact us.

How long will my skin stay red?

It depends on the person and your skin type. For most people, redness is mostly gone after 30 to 60 minutes. Avoid perfumes and scrubs the day of your appointment. See our Post-Wax Aftercare Tips for further information. Have a special occasion coming up? Schedule your wax 2 to 3 days before the event.

What is skin lifting?

Skin can “lift” during waxing for several reasons. The area where skin lifts looks similar to a rug burn. Using skin-care products that contain salicylic acid, glycolic acid or alpha hydroxyl (AHA) acid can cause skin to lift while waxing. Aggressive exfoliation such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels can also cause the skin to lift. In addition, certain prescription medications such as antibiotics, Accutane, Retin-A, Renova, Strivetin, Proactive, or Avage can cause thinning of the skin which results in lifting during waxing. See our Waxing Contraindications page for a complete list. We ask our first time clients if they have any of these conditions and generally recommend that they do not get waxed if any of these situations exist.

Men's Waxing FAQs

Aren’t brazilian waxes only for women?

In the past, women were the only ones who got to benefit from Brazilian waxing, but it is a whole new world now! It is now common for men to want to get waxed down there. We often see bodybuilders and other athletes come in, men who want to be more sanitary, or men who simply like the aesthetic of the waxed look. It’s not a “female thing;” it’s a hygiene thing!

Isn’t it embarrassing?

First of all, you should know that our wax technicians are not judging your body. We have years of experience and have seen it all, so you have no need to feel self-conscious. We are just trying to give you the best wax possible, and that is our only concern during your appointment.

Is it safe to wax down there?

There is a misconception out there that it isn’t safe to wax male genitals, but this isn’t true. Many salons do not offer this service, but it is mostly because up until recently, there wasn’t much demand for male Brazilian waxes. Getting a Brazilian wax is completely safe for men, provided that you go to a hygienic and professional waxing salon.

How much hair will be removed?

This is dependent on your own preferences. We can do anything from a simple bikini wax in which we remove only the hair that would be visible when wearing a bikini-style bottom, to removing all of the hair entirely. Talk to your wax technician about your exact preference for how much hair should be removed.

What if i get “excited” during the appointment?

This is actually a very common and normal reaction to getting waxed; it happens about 50 percent of the time. There is no need to stress about your wax technician being anything but completely professional. We won’t acknowledge it; we’re too busy trying to give you the most even and smoothest wax possible.

Will it be painful?

Well, removing your hair from the follicle is never going to be exactly comfortable, but at Brazils Waxing Center, we use specific techniques to reduce the discomfort of a Brazilian wax. Also keep in mind that the first wax is the most painful; after two or three sessions, our clients generally report that they feel less discomfort.

What should i do to get ready for my appointment?

There are a few things you should do before your appointment. First of all, make sure you have recently showered, as clean skin is better for waxing and it will make you feel more comfortable. Don’t apply any lotion after you shower, however; this makes waxing more difficult because the wax cannot grip the hair. Additionally, make sure there is at least a quarter inch of hair before you come into your appointment. If you usually shave, stop shaving about three weeks before your appointment. This is particularly important for male Brazilian waxes, because the hair down there usually grows slower than the rest of the body.

What about after my appointment?

After your Brazilian wax, you can expect some redness and puffiness around the area, but that should go down within the first 48 hours. Within this time period, do not exfoliate your skin, as it will irritate your skin further. After that, you should exfoliate every few days to avoid ingrown hairs. Additionally, avoid baths, steam rooms, jacuzzis, and the like, as well as strenuous exercise and sexual activity.
